Integrated Pest and Disease Management in Citrus Fruits

From the Plant Protection Center of the Valencian Institute of Agricultural Research (IVIA), the App “INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF CITRUS PESTS AND DISEASES” is launched as a support for decision-making within a GIP program. This App arises with the intention of becoming a powerful reference tool for citrus professionals.

The App is structured with the purpose of offering intuitive access to all the information available on the web, which is why it has great value as a consultation tool. It has different sections where you can obtain information about all the pests and diseases that attack citrus trees.

These sections are based on the fundamentals of integrated pest management, that is:

1) the correct identification of each pest and the damage it causes, through a large number of high quality photographs

2) sampling methods and treatment thresholds, which clearly and simply specify the types of sampling and the thresholds from which treatment must be carried out and

3) the control methods, where the various strategies (biological, biotechnical, cultural or chemical control) to follow for each of the pests are presented.

A section is included where you can consult the characteristics of each of the natural enemies present in our citrus fruits. Each natural enemy is also accompanied by high-quality photos to facilitate its identification in the field. The side effects section is of vital importance, since it shows the possible and variable negative effect of phytosanitary products on the most relevant natural enemies in the citrus ecosystem.

The GIP citrus App is designed to be a source of dynamic information, reflecting the current state of pest management and incorporating the results of new research on a regular basis. For this purpose, there is a Notices section, a tool that allows users to be informed weekly of news and news of interest through an email addressed to subscribers.
